Lancia Aurelia Transport Imperia to Monte Carlo

Travel Journal

A Lancia Aurelia B20 carefully loaded in the dead of night, 198 kilometres of motorway heading towards France, delivery at dawn outside the entrance to the Principality. A route we cover often, but every classic car is a story of its own.

The journey

Departure at 5 in the morning from the province of Imperia. The Lancia Aurelia B20 had been in a private warehouse since 1987 and the current owner is restoring it. Delivery was scheduled at a collector’s workshop in Monte Carlo for bodywork repairs. With vehicles of this kind, loading demands triple care: original tie-down points, paintwork still fresh in some areas, no modern locking systems.

We used our Mercedes tow truck with a dedicated flatbed and controlled-tension straps. Throughout the journey the B20 remained anchored without any movement — that is the difference between a professional transport and an improvised service. At the Ventimiglia border crossing the checks were routine: historic vehicle documentation ready, no issues.

Delivery in Monte Carlo at 8:30 in the morning, with the collector present in person. Access to the workshop is narrow and requires reversing manoeuvres: having driven this road before helps. We were back in Italy by lunchtime, ready for the next load.
